Margaret River Chocolate Company & Providore combine to offer wine & chocolate tastings

                                                                                                                                                                                                   

 If you’ve ever been told that wine and chocolate don’t mix - then think again.

  Some dark country of origin chocolate works perfectly with selected red wines, while white wines and stickies can also work with anything from plain chocolate to sea salted caramel truffles – so long as you know what you’re doing!

 That’s the advice from The Margaret River Chocolate Company and sister company Providore, which have started daily wine and chocolate pairing classes at their brand new Swan Valley tasting centre.

 Recognised as one of Australia’s Top 100 Gourmet Experiences, Proviore expanded its operations from Margaret River into the Swan Valley in August, with its new tasting centre opening right next door to the chocolate factory.

 In addition to its expansive range of olive oils, sauces, jams and dried goods, Providore also features the award-winning Coward & Black Vineyards range of wines, many of which can work perfectly with chocolates.

 The Margaret River Chocolate Company and Providore co-owner Patrick Coward said people were often commenting that chocolate and wine didn’t mix, but that was not necessarily the case.

 He said while some chocolates and wines would never mix, selectively pairing appropriate wine and chocolate varieties produced some exceptionally good results.

 “Opening Providore in the Swan Valley right next door to the chocolate factory gave us an opportunity to vigorously explore flavor combinations over many months to determine what works and what doesn’t,” Mr Coward said.

 “For example, our Coward & Black low alcohol wine “Sweetness & Light” works perfectly with milk chocolate coated apricots, while our brand new “Old Vine Tokay”, which is produced in the Swan Valley, is sensational with plain white chocolate.”

 Mr Coward said the chocolate and wine pairing classes would initially run at 11.30am daily at the new Providore tasting centre on West Swan Road, but may be expanded to include an afternoon class also.

 He said participants would taste six wines and matching chocolates, as well as sampling the company’s four highly popular Sambarino chocolate liqueurs.

 Each participant would also receive a bottle of Sambarino as part of the $30 cost of the course.

Established in Margaret River in 2005, the original Providore combines an organic olive grove, orchard and vegetable gardens, large free range chicken pen and expansive vineyards. In 2011 it was named as one of Australia’s Top 100 Gourmet Experiences by Australian Traveller magazine and more recently hosted an episode of the hit reality TV series My Kitchen Rules.

 Providore in the Swan Valley is housed in a spectacular, purpose built facility alongside its sister-business, The Margaret River Chocolate Company, at 5123 West Swan Road.
